Across the globe, farming communities are facing unprecedented levels of stress and mental health challenges, with suicide rates alarmingly higher than those of the general population.

Poor mental health among farmers hinders the achievement of sustainable livelihoods in agricultural communities and has both direct and indirect negative impacts on child protection. Mental health issues among farmers can also contribute to child distress, heightened poverty, increased child labour, and, in the worst cases, even orphanhood.

Building resilience is necessary for growers' associations, civil society organisations, extension workers, buyers and contractors to reduce the impact of stressors and strengthen farming communities.
